THE LCA METHODOLOGY FOR “BIODIVERSITY”

Through the LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) methodology, we have measured the environmental impacts of Biodiversity, our new and innovative industrial inlay making circular economy its competitive advantage.

The study has been carried out complying with the ISO 14040 (Environmental management – Life Cycle Assessment – Principles and framework) and ISO 14044 (Environmental management – Life Cycle Assessment – Requirements and guidelines) international standards.

The Biodiversity industrial inlay was created by the idea to enhance wastes and unsold products: the use of “secondary” raw materials (12 wood species) as an input of the productive process emphasises the attention to the themes of circularity and sustainability.

The Biodiversity circularity is based on the following features:

  • Design for Remanufacturing: the restoration of a product in order to have performance characteristics similar to a new product
  • Using “secondary” raw materials: use of materials recovered within other internal productive processes
  • Enhancing wastes within the productive process

POTENTIAL IMPACT OF BIODIVERSITY INLAY (ISO14040 – ISO 14044)

LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) is the methodology allowing the quantification of the potential impacts on environment and human health associated with goods or a service.

In the LCA analysis there are several values expressing the impact of a product on the environment, among which Global warming, measured through the principle of Kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalents of generated during the life cycle, “from cradle to gate”.

1 square meter of Biodiversity inlay produces 3,81 kg of Co2 eq., an extremely virtuous value.

To follows Standards is mandatory to avoid the so called “GREEN WASHING”

COMPARATIVE ANALYSES OF THE LIFE CYCLE: WOOD, VIRTUOUS MATERIAL

For the same life cycle phases considered, “from cradle to gate”, we present a comparison with other materials for surfaces such as HPL or PORCELAIN TILES. The results here are extracted from Environmental Product Declarations. Source: publications on Environdec and EPD Italy.

 

OUR FOCUS ON THE CARBON FOOTPRINT

A carbon footprint is the total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions caused directly and indirectly by an individual, organisation, event or product, and is expressed as a carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e). Even if it is not possible to generate zero emissions, the companies are committed to defining a carbon management system aimed at implementing those economically efficient measures to reduce emissions, which use technologies with low carbon content. The reduction measures can be supplemented by measures that aim to offset the emissions with equivalent measures such as planting trees and the renewable energy production.
